Industrial Manufacturing Company: “Employees Love PrinterLogic”

Posted by Andrew Miller

The independent research firm TechValidate recently surveyed representatives from a large industrial manufacturing company to talk about their experience with PrinterLogic. The case study (TVID: CFE-267-3C5) was enlightening for several reasons.

To begin with, this company had a laundry list of printing problems it needed to address. Issues like:

  • Printing security, including the ability to pull print
  • Printing in virtual sessions (e.g., Citrix, VDI)
  • Inefficient printer, driver and queue management
  • Excessive and fragmented server infrastructure
  • Difficulty deploying printers
  • Overly complex end-user printer installation

PrinterLogic delivered results on not one, not some, but all those counts. Thanks to its efficient centralized print management that converts Windows shared printers into direct IP, its seamless integration with virtual environments like Citrix and VMware, and its intuitive self-service printer installation portal, PrinterLogic is able to combine powerful administrative features with security and simplicity for IT as well as the end user. As this industrial manufacturing company’s experience shows, PrinterLogic isn’t a narrow remedy for a single limitation of your print environment—it’s a holistic solution that addresses multiple areas in one fell swoop, ultimately saving costs and resources across your entire organization.

We’ve also seen before how PrinterLogic has performed for companies in the insurance, transportation and education sectors. Each sector—and every company within that sector—has different needs, different real-world use cases. For example, prior to installing PrinterLogic, this industrial manufacturing company had 50+ printers, five print servers, and more than 25 physical sites—variables that will differ from organization to organization. And yet the quantifiable benefits the company experienced with PrinterLogic are similar to the hundreds of other companies that have migrated to our enterprise print management solution:

  • Time spent on print management dropped by 50%
  • Print-related calls to the service desk were also cut in half
  • Usage of print consumables like toner and paper was reduced by 15%
  • The ROI of implementing PrinterLogic is 100%—and counting
  • PrinterLogic was fully installed enterprise-wide in 24 hours

In qualitative terms, the company’s experience is just as impressive. The ease of deployment, the speed of deployment and the ease of use all scored ratings of “amazing.” Printer driver management and printing security both got rated as “excellent.”

And in their own words? A company representative had this to say: “Our employees love PrinterLogic’s self-service capabilities. On the IT side, we don’t have to worry about a rogue printing process or printer queue interfering with business critical print jobs.”

Enterprise Print Management

Posted by Devin Anderson

Enterprise print management is serious business. You’ve got a fundamental aspect of the day-to-day operations of an entire organization riding on your shoulders, and it’s up to you and your IT team to make sure it can take place easily, transparently and without interruption for every single end user from the office intern to the CEO.

At PrinterLogic, we recognize precisely what serious business enterprise print management is, which is why we’ve spent many years developing a solution with a feature set that reads like a print management wish list.

  • We solved the frustration of fragmented printer administration with at-a-glance centralized printer management from a single pane of glass.
  • We dealt with the traditional quirks and workarounds required by Citrix and VMware by creating a solution that integrates seamlessly with these popular environments and augments virtual sessions with its powerful functionality.
  • We took the hassle out of routine printer installation through a self-service portal that is so intuitive, so simple that end users can identify and install nearby printers themselves with a single click.
  • We stripped the complexity out of driver management, allowing admins to deploy updates or change profile configurations for one printer—or even a whole fleet of printers—by little more than checking a box.
  • We designed an integrated Mobile Printing solution that caters to the cutting-edge needs of BYOD employees and guests while making it effortless to carry out secure enterprise-wide printing from any device.

PrinterLogic proves that just because robust, reliable enterprise print management is so vital to your organization’s success, that doesn’t mean it can’t be straightforward too. In fact, the more straightforward it is, the more empowering it is for your IT team as well as your end users—so it’s easier for you to make use of PrinterLogic’s built-in advanced functionality, such as cost-saving comprehensive auditing, or for employees to carry out routine printer installations on their own, saving them and you a call to the service desk.

And with each new enterprise installation, PrinterLogic demonstrates its amazing versatility. Through direct feedback as well as multiple surveys carried out by independent research firms, customers of ours across a vast number of industries—education, logistics, law enforcement, transportation, manufacturing, food services, you name it—have told us how implementing PrinterLogic as their enterprise print management solution saved their organization significant time, money, and frustration. Regardless of their size, their site distribution, or their sector, PrinterLogic put them in total control of their enterprise print environment. Some organizations used PrinterLogic to better manage their existing print servers. Many used PrinterLogic to eliminate print servers altogether.

So if your organization is serious about enterprise print management, why not opt for a streamlined, seamless solution that takes enterprise print management as seriously as you do?

Upgrading from 32-Bit Windows Print Server to 64-Bit 2012 Print Server

Posted by Jordan Lindsey

Microsoft has ended support for 2003 servers, which means there is a good chance that your 32-bit print server is no longer supported. If you’re like many organizations, though, there’s a chance that the only reason you’re still running 32-bit 2008 R2 or 2012 (R2) servers is because you have one or two programs that can’t run in 64-bit.

So let’s take a quick look at what obstacles you’d need to overcome to migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit. And while we’re at it, let’s explore the possibility of eliminating any unwanted servers.

Microsoft offers a few different migration tools (which are not very user friendly), and the manual process for migration is not easy. Microsoft currently allows you to add additional drivers to any printer. So once you have all your printers setup and assigned with 64-bit drivers, you can also add and select ‘additional driver’ within the sharing of a printer. This will allow you to have both a 32-bit and 64-bit driver assigned to a printer residing on a 64-bit server.

Now, if you only have 10 printers, this is not so bad of a task. But what if you have 100, 200, or 3,000 printers? It becomes an incredibly difficult, time-consuming task.

Microsoft does also offer a migration tool that you can try using. Now let’s be honest, who is going to guess that this is going to be smooth or easy to use? This is a tool designed specifically for migrating from one server to another. You still have to get all your 32-bit and 64-bit drivers assigned to each printer manually, though.

There is another solution…PrinterLogic’s enterprise print management solution. PrinterLogic is a web-based print management tool that allows you to connect to all print servers, 32 and 64 bit, and copy all your printers and drivers into one centralized location for management of the entire printing environment. All of the print servers can be decommissioned and shut off. You will never deal with 32 and 64-bit printing issues again, and you can help save your company money by eliminating hardware and dramatically reducing management and support costs.
